Klaipeda Free Economic Zone is the first and the only fully functioning free economic zone in Lithuania, officially opened in year 2002 and, within a year, two international companies started operations there: Japanese company Yazaki Wiring Technologies Lietuva, and the Danish company A.Espersen A/S, which opened a fish processing factory in January 2003. The developers of a business complex on a site, an Irish company, Klaipedos Verslo Parkas/BNTP UAB, already expand their premises. The Austrian company Retal Baltic Klaipeda UAB is getting ready to supply PET packing pre-forms. Soon PACK Klaipėda UAB, which will manufacture disposable dishes, will join a building lot and packages, later on a Thai concern Indorama will start a construction of a plant for raw PET material. Moreover, Skuba UAB, the dealer of Renault Trucks plans a service centre for the trucking and warehousing companies, developing their activities in the zone and the region. The new bio fuel company Mestilla UAB will start they project in the site in next year. Klaipeda FEZ signed for € 170 million investment in 2002-2005 years.
Tax incentives available to companies in the Klaipeda Free Economic Zone is interpreted under European Union law as State aid for Regional Development, and thus the incentives comply with European Union law.
